Sébastien Pocognoli’s choices paid off as Monaco won 3-1 in Paris on Friday, with Paris Saint-Germain rattled and Warren Zaïre-Emery culpable on two of the visitors’ three goals.
According to L'Équipe, PSG’s back line never looked secure, while Achraf Hakimi mixed an assist with costly errors and Nuno Mendes carried much of the attacking threat. Bradley Barcola was their sharpest outlet and eventually scored after being moved to the left.
Early on, Hakimi lost Denis Zakaria at a corner in the fifth minute. Zaïre-Emery’s error in the 27th minute led to Monaco’s opener, and he was later involved in their second. After the half-hour, Barcola switched flanks and struck in the 71st minute from Hakimi’s pass.
Matvei Safonov made a strong save from Aleksandr Golovine in the 57th minute and denied Mohamed Camara in the 72nd, before Simon Adingra hit the bar in the 88th. Mendes deflected Folarin Balogun’s shot on Monaco’s third, and Hakimi’s difficult ball to Lee Kang-In preceded that move.
Jackson Pacho struggled with Balogun’s movement, and Ilya Zabarnyi made one risky error before the break without ever imposing himself. Vitinha was busy but wasteful, D. Fernandez showed flashes yet needs rhythm and strength, and D. Doué endured a flat night. Changes on the hour brought Lee Kang-In, Senny Mayulu and Ousmane Dembélé, with Zaïre-Emery replaced by Gonçalo Ramos in the 75th minute.
Luis Enrique’s plan faltered against Monaco’s man-marking in midfield and his decision to start D. Doué again did not come off. Shifting Barcola left was timely, but the later substitutions did not tilt the contest, and Lee’s late turnover preceded the third goal.
