PSG beat Liverpool 2-0 in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday, with Kvaratskhelia scoring and Warren Zaïre-Emery impressing in midfield. L'Équipe’s ratings underlined both displays.

The hosts led on 11 minutes after Ousmane Dembélé’s slalom opened space for D. Doué, whose shot deflected in.

Dembélé missed clear chances on 42 and 53 minutes. Kvaratskhelia then made it 2-0 on 65 minutes, accelerating onto J. Neves’ fine pass. Dembélé later hit the post on 87.

Zaïre-Emery almost won a penalty on 71, only for VAR to reverse the decision. Nuno Mendes was lively but should have scored on 89 after an excellent Hakimi pass, the Moroccan also going close on 82.

Behind them, Matvey Safonov had a quiet night, dealing with aerial balls and three off-target efforts, his distribution steady. Marquinhos smothered Hugo Ekitike and Pacho dominated duels, cutting out dangerous crosses.

Vitinha struggled to find his range before tidying up his work. Doué was replaced by Lee on 78 minutes and Dembélé by L. Hernandez on 88, with Mendes finishing wide left. Luis Enrique’s settled XI executed a clear plan, while Arne Slot’s minimal approach failed.
