The clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fixtures of this Champions League knockout stage. Both clubs share a rich European history, defined by tightly contested and spectacular encounters. As the two sides prepare to meet again at the Parc des Princes, a host of key statistics and recent storylines help shed light on what’s truly at stake between these serious contenders.

A remarkably balanced European history

In Champions League history, PSG and Chelsea have locked horns eight times. The record is incredibly close: three wins for the Parisian side, two for the Londoners, and three draws. Offensively, Paris holds a slight edge with 11 goals scored to Chelsea’s 10.

One detail that boosts PSG’s confidence lies in their head-to-head knockout encounters. In their last two meetings at this stage, the French capital’s club managed to eliminate Chelsea in the round of 16, first in 2015 and then again in 2016.

Revenge on everyone’s mind

This matchup, however, comes in a special context. On July 13, 2025, Chelsea thoroughly dominated PSG (3-0) in the Club World Cup final. That heavy defeat remains a vivid memory for the Parisians and fuels a sense of revenge heading into this fresh European duel.

PSG’s Champions League journey this season hasn’t been straightforward. After finishing the league phase in 11th place with 14 points, the Parisians had to get past Monaco in a playoff to reach this stage of the competition. Yet, they’ve showcased their attacking prowess with 77 shots on target and an impressive passing accuracy of 91.14%.

Extremely close odds

Chelsea also arrive with some strong credentials. The Blues have lost only three of their eight Champions League meetings with PSG and are riding an impressive streak of six consecutive wins against French clubs in European competitions.

According to statistical prediction models, PSG are slight favorites for the first leg at the Parc des Princes with a 48% chance of victory. The likelihood of a draw is pegged at 27%, while a Chelsea win is given a 25% chance. Over both legs, the odds for qualification are razor-thin: 52% for Paris, 48% for the London club. This is shaping up to be an incredibly tight contest.
