FFC Barcelona may not have enjoyed the start they wanted to the 2025/26 season. Injuries have prevented Hansi Flick from fielding his first-choice eleven in most games, but this has given opportunities to fringe players.
Eric Garcia, for example, has built on his excellent form from last season and established himself as a regular starter for Flick. He is the preferred central defensive partner to Pau Cubarsi and has also played on the right and the left.
A few days ago, it emerged that PSG were interested in signing Eric, with Luis Enrique said to be a big admirer. However, according to Fichajes, the 24-year-old prefers to stay at Barcelona despite interest from the Ligue 1 giants.
Eric is in the final year of his contract at Barcelona, and Deco has opened talks with him over a potential new deal. The player is keen to extend his stay but is seeking a pay rise to reflect his increased value within the team.
The Spaniard is now considered one of the fundamental players in Flick’s squad. It was the German manager who vetoed an exit for him in January last season, and he has been vindicated in his decision to keep the Spanish defender.
Everything points to Eric putting pen to paper on a new contract. He has done very well so far this season and will be hoping to sustain his good form. Let us wait and see how things play out in the coming months.
