Real Madrid have been widely linked with midfielders in recent days, especially with Xabi Alonso seeing a clear void in the squad and the need for leadership in the department.

While it initially did not appear to be too much of a gap to bridge, the loss of leadership after Toni Kroos and Luka Modric’s departures is now clearly palpable and Real Madrid are thus looking for a seasoned presence to even out the situation.

PSG’s Vitinha, on that front, has emerged as their dream target, although the deal was always considered to be exceedingly complicated for financial reasons.

A second hurdle

Now, according to Defensa Central, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has emerged as the massive hurdle between Real Madrid and Vitinha and will do everything in his capacity to block the midfielder’s departure to the men in white.

There is indeed a release clause in the player’s contract worth €90 million – one that Real Madrid planned to trigger should they make money from a massive departure like that of Vinicius.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, however, refuses to even sit down and discuss with Florentino Perez about any transfer after the Kylian Mbappe saga.

The PSG president is furious with how Perez and Real Madrid handled Mbappe’s transfer as a free agent and has thus decided that he will show no more cooperation.

The decision is final and binding and likely will not change regardless of the situation.

Everything lies in the hands of Vitinha now, for the player will have the final decision. His contract until 2029 rules out any scope for negotiation between the clubs, given the new development, and the release clause appears to be beyond Real Madrid’s budget today.
