PSG rout Marseille 5-0 as Dembélé dazzles in ruthless Classique | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Marseille 5-0 at the Parc des Princes to reclaim top spot in Ligue 1. Ousmane Dembélé struck twice, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lee Kang-In and a Facundo Medina own goal completing a ruthless Classique.

PSG, stung by Marseille’s September win at the Vélodrome, their first in 14 years, set a fierce early tempo. According to GetFootballNewsFrance.com, no away supporters have been admitted to the Parc since 2010.

Marseille’s high press was punished when Nuno Mendes surged down the left and crossed with the outside of his boot for Dembélé to finish on 12 minutes. Safonov then denied Amine Gouiri from Mason Greenwood’s delivery before Dembélé doubled the lead on 37 minutes, capitalising on a Leonardo Balerdi error and slaloming through to lash in at the near post.

At half-time Roberto De Zerbi introduced Igor Paixao for Ethan Nwaneri, but PSG kept coming, as Désiré Doué hit the post and then stretched in vain for Dembélé’s cut-back. Paixao forced a save from Safonov with a downward header from Greenwood’s cross.

Weah saw a strike blocked by Pacho before Himad Abdelli debuted and Luis Enrique sent on Kvaratskhelia for Doué. Bradley Barcola rounded Jeffrey De Lange but shot from too tight an angle, then Medina diverted Joao Neves’ header into his own net on 64 minutes. Two minutes later Dembélé set up Kvaratskhelia for a superb volley, and Lee Kang-In fired in a fifth from the edge of the box after Medina failed to close him down.

The defeat capped a torrid fortnight for Marseille, who slipped to fourth, with Champions League qualification now a battle to the end of the season.
