Carlos Soler, currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, appears to have found his rhythm at West Ham United, creating a bit of a dilemma for the club down the line.

Looking for more consistent playing time, Soler decided to pursue a new challenge last summer. With several clubs showing interest, West Ham managed to secure his loan deal on deadline day last summer.

Last month, Claret and Hugh reported, citing sources, that West Ham United are unlikely to trigger the option-to-buy clause in Soler’s loan deal.

The report notes that while the transfer fee, just under €20 million, isn’t the main issue, Soler’s high wages make any potential deal difficult to pursue.

Claret and Hugh also claim that Soler is considered a signing made under Julen Lopetegui, making it unlikely he’ll have a long-term future under Graham Potter, who is still assessing his inherited West Ham squad.

Despite probably knowing that this would be a one-and-done season, especially after the sacking of Lopetegui, Soler told Relevo what attracted him to join West Ham last summer.

“Why West Ham? In the end, I wanted to leave Paris,” Solert said (h/t Le10Sport). “No one told me I had to leave, I wanted to get minutes and confidence, to feel truly important.

“It’s true that I had other approaches during the summer, but Lopetegui called me. His call really appealed to me. Also, playing in the Premier League, I’m not sure if it’s the best league, but I’ve always enjoyed it. Being in London also influenced my decision.”

Moreover, Soler noted that he had other projects that he could’ve chosen, but opted to try and challenge himself in the Premier League.

“Other opportunities arose here in the Premier League, and the one where I felt the most affection from the club and the coach was West Ham,” Soler added (h/t Le10Sport).

“In the end, the Premier League is a league that catches everyone’s attention. Every match is very exciting, there are plenty of chances, and they tend to be very open. I think it’s a style that suits the player I am.”
