Two American talents are taking the Champions League by storm on Tuesday.
Juventus kicked off their campaign with a match against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, and USMNT star Weston McKennie played a starring role in their 3-1 win.
Thiago Motta’s side took the lead through Kenan Yıldız after just 21 minutes and then doubled it as McKennie found the back of the net with a close-range header.
In doing so, the midfielder grabbed his fifth Champions League goal, overtaking DaMarcus Beasley in the list of US internationals who have scored the most in the prestigious European competition.
McKennie has now scored in four different Champions League campaigns and is becoming somewhat of a household name in Europe.
Only Milan forward and national team captain Christian Pulisic has more with a total of eight. And in the late kickoffs it was his time to shine.
The Hershey native ran into acres of space against Liverpool at the San Siro and had home fans erupt excitedly after slotting home into the far corner beyond Alisson. It surprised the Premier League side, arriving after only three minutes.
It goes down as Pulisic’s ninth in the competition and 30th goal contribution in all competitions for Milan (18 goals, 12 assists). No Serie A player has contributed more than him since the start of last season.
What a night in Europe for the Americans so far!
