The London outfit will be keen to improve on that position, having also come 15th in the campaign prior.

The Hoops have already completed the signings of Calum Ward, Boy Kemper and Pierce Charles, with the latter arriving on loan from Manchester City, while Tariq Lamptey has also just joined in a shock deal.

And more additions could yet be confirmed between now and the 1 September deadline, with the Frenchman looking to bolster his options throughout the team.

There have also been some departures, with Zan Celar, Sam Field and Murphy Cooper all netting transfer fees for QPR.

But Stéphan will be hoping that the focus of the remainder of the window will be on strengthening his squad, with the club setting their sights on a top half of the table finish.

It has been reported by The Athletic that QPR are interested in a deal for Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers.

The 22-year-old has come through the academy system of the Premier League side, but has been unable to break into their first team plans.

The left-sided player has gone on loan to the likes of Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic, with the latter offering him his first taste of Championship football last season.

Chambers joined the Addicks in the January window, and went on to play 18 times in the league, including 16 starts, to help the team finish 19th in the table.

But he is now attracting interest from QPR, although it remains to be seen whether it would be on a permanent basis or if it would be another loan move.

Chambers featured against Stéphan’s side during his time at Charlton, playing 74 minutes of a 0-0 draw in February in which he played as a left-wing-back.

The 22-year-old is capable of playing across the left-side as a full-back, wing-back or even as a winger, and that versatility could make him a useful asset for a club like QPR.

Chambers signed a long-term contract with Liverpool in 2023, meaning there won’t be much time remaining on his current deal.

This could open the door to a permanent move for QPR, provided they can strike an agreement with Liverpool for the youngster.

Stéphan’s side will return to action with an opening day clash away to Portsmouth on 15 August.

Luke Chambers could be a smart signing for QPR

QPR have added Kemper to the side already this summer, and he is typically played as a left-back, but he is also capable of playing as a centre-back.

So there would be room to add Chambers to the squad while being able to offer him regular game time, particularly given his versatility.

Rhys Norrington-Davies’ loan spell coming to an end made the left side of defence a priority for QPR in the transfer market, and a move for Chambers would put them in a stronger position.

And given he is still only 22, he is someone that can still develop and grow into a top Championship player, so this could be a smart piece of business, depending on the terms of any possible deal.
