Rafael Quintas has agreed a new Benfica contract until June 2031 after reaching agreement with Rui Costa, underscoring the club’s faith in the young midfielder following earlier complications in the process.

Maisfutebol reports that the agreement is verbal and will be formalised once the administrative process is completed, and that the new deal contains a €60 million release clause.

He is viewed as one of the standout talents of his generation, buoyed by recent success with Portugal under-17s, where he played a prominent part on the way to European and world titles.

Benfica plan to start integrating the midfielder into first-team dynamics from next season in a gradual transition. The hierarchy believe he fits the profile to develop within the club and prepare step by step for senior football.

This season for Benfica, Quintas has made 35 appearances across the under-23 and under-19 sides, 15 in the Campeonato Nacional de Juniores, 14 in Liga Revelação and six in the UEFA Youth League. He has logged 2,638 minutes, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
