Rangers are getting close to signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer before the transfer deadline, according to journalist Alex Crook.

They want to bring in an attacker to Ibrox to boost their chances in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Rangers are closing in on a move for the 24-year-old Englishman. Archer was not included in the Saints’ matchday squad that won 2-0 at Stoke City today.

Rangers have also been linked with Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi, bidding around €3.6 million for him, but his club do not want to sell him this window.

However, Southampton are open to allowing Archer leave and are looking to bring in another striker before the deadline.

The former Aston Villa forward brings considerable experience to the table, having impressed in the English Championship in recent seasons.

Archer could make all the difference for Rangers in the title race as he offers something different from their other striking options.

He can drop deep to pick up the ball, feature as a number ten due to his technical abilities and knack for playing through balls.

There are less than 48 hours remaining in the winter transfer window, and Rangers need to move quickly to get the deal across the line.

Signing Archer will allow Danilo to move on loan to NEC Nijmegen. The Saints striker will be desperate to hit the ground running in Scotland and prove to be an upgrade on Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti.
