If a recent transfer update from Sky Sports’ German correspondent Florian Plettenberg is believed to be true, Rangers are closing in on Andreas Skov Olsen, the Wolfsburg attacking ace, who is keen on a fresh challenge after a lack of opportunities in the Bundesliga.

The 26-year-old Denmark international progressed through the academy ranks of Alsønderup SG&I and Nordsjælland before breaking into the latter’s first-team squad in 2017 at the age of 17. Soon, he made strides with the Danish hotshots, which led to a €6m transfer to Bologna in the top tier of Italian football.

However, Olsen failed to replicate a similar show in Serie A and was eventually transferred to Club Brugge in January 2022. There, he revived his form and earned a high-profile €14m switch to Wolfsburg a year ago.

Despite featuring regularly early in the campaign, the winger has lately lost his spot due to form and fitness reasons. With the World Cup playoffs knocking on the door, he must secure minutes to stake a claim in Brian Riemer’s plans. Rangers are ready to pay a significant loan fee to secure his services for the remainder of the season, as the board backs Danny Rohl, who has turned things around, overcoming the nightmare under Russell Martin.

Why Olsen’s Arrival Would Strengthen Rangers

The Light Blues bolstered their flanks by snapping up Djeidi Gassama, Mikey Moore and Oliver Antman. They also have Findlay Curtis, Nedim Bajrami, Rabbi Matondo and Danilo to challenge and cover the first-team regulars. Yet the productivity from the wide areas has been below par, with Bajrami, Matondo and Danilo being transfer-listed, as they do not belong to Rohl’s long-term plans.

Gassama has impressed with his flair and finesse, but his finishing and decision-making remain a concern. Antman, currently out injured, has not found the net in 20 appearances. Moore, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has only scored three goals and laid on twice in 26 outings across competitions.
