Rangers captain James Tavernier has put out a statement on social media after he missed the Scottish Premiership game against Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

It was claimed that he had left Ibrox before the match following a bust-up with manager Danny Rohl.

However, Tavernier was available to receive an official presentation on behalf of the club from John Greig.

The defender did not feature in the match, and he has posted on Instagram this evening to explain his side of the story.

As Tavernier explained in his post, the matter could have been handled differently had there been smoother communication between him and the Rangers boss.

Rangers visit Falkirk in their last game of the season on Saturday, and it is unclear whether the 34-year-old will be available for the trip.

Tavernier was looking forward to playing his last game at Ibrox as a Rangers player after 11 years of service.

However, the club could now look to make amends and arrange something for him.

Rangers lost 2-1 to Hibs but will still finish the season in third position despite four defeats in four games following the league split.

Their form in the second phase of the league campaign ended their title chances and ambitions, and Rohr will look to do better next season if he is still in charge.
