There has been ‘no progress’ between Rangers and a club interested in snapping up one of the Gers’ stars, with a difference in valuation.
With new majority owners at the club, hopes are high amongst fans that Rangers can significantly improve the quality of the squad this summer.
Russell Martin, the new boss, will have a big input on who arrives and who is sold, with Rangers also wanting to do their best to bring in cash from the sale of players the manager is prepared to let go.
Currently, Greek giants AEK Athens are trying to agree a deal with Rangers to sign striker Cyriel Dessers.
Dessers has split opinion during his time at Ibrox so far, with many Rangers fans feeling he is not clinical enough in front of goal; one former Ger has urged the club to keep him.
AEK have seen enough to convince them about Dessers, but there has been ‘no progress’ made in talks between the two clubs, according to Greek daily Sportime.
The Greek club would like to be paying a fee which is less than €4.5m for the striker but Rangers, it is suggested, are ‘not at that level at the moment’.
Talks between the two sides are continuing, which suggests that Dessers would be happy to move to Athens if a deal can be agreed.
The 30-year-old has scored on a regular basis at Rangers, notching 22 goals across all competitions in his first season at the club and then 29 goals last term.
Dessers has also had to cope with managerial change, as Philippe Clement was brought in and then sacked.
And one ex-top flight star recently dubbed him a better goalscorer than Celtic’s Adam Idah.
AEK finished bottom of the Championship Group in the Greek top flight in the recent season and as a result will be in the Conference League next term.
Rangers have, ironically, been drawn against Greek opposition in the Champions League qualifiers and they will face Panathinaikos.
