Rangers and Celtic face off once again in an Old Firm showdown in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on Sunday, with a semi-final spot up for grabs and the momentum in a tight domestic season very much on the line.
Rangers come into this tie in solid form, with their last five competitive games producing two wins and three draws across league and cup, underlining both their attacking output and resilience.
During this period, they thrashed Queen’s Park 8–0 at Ibrox, drew 1–1 away at Motherwell, beat Hearts 4–2 at home in a key clash near the top of the table, and recorded 2–2 draws at Livingston and then against Celtic at Ibrox on 1 March.
In the league, Rangers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership with 57 points from 29 matches, having recorded 15 victories, 12 draws and just 2 defeats, along with a goal difference of +26.
On the injury front for Rangers, Conor Barron (hamstring), Derek Cornelius (muscle) and Bailey Rice (unspecified issue) have all been dealing with longer-term fitness problems and will not be available for this game.
Up front, Youssef Chermiti is expected to lead the attack once more for Rangers, aiming to build on his performance from last week’s Old Firm derby in which he scored twice.
Manager Danny Rohl has acknowledged that the backing of more than 7,000 travelling Celtic supporters could have an impact on the atmosphere in this quarter-final, but he has also insisted that his players know exactly what they need to do to silence the away end.
Possible Rangers starting XI: Butland; Sterling, Souttar, Fernandez, Rommens; Raskin, Chukwuani; Skov Olsen, Moore; Diomande, Chermiti.
The match will kick off at 1pm BST on Sunday, 8th March.
For viewers in the UK, the match will be broadcast live on Premier Sports 1.
