Rangers vs Hearts – Match Preview and Team News

  1. Date: 13th September, Saturday.
  2. Kick-off: 3pm BST.
  3. Venue: Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow.

Rangers Team News

Rangers manager Russell Martin will be looking to get his side back to winning ways after a disappointing start to the 2025/26 campaign. The Light Blues have been held to draws in all four of their opening league matches, leaving them in seventh place with just four points.

The Gers face several injury concerns ahead of this fixture, with Dujon Sterling ruled out with an Achilles tendon injury that could keep him sidelined until early January 2026.

Speaking about the team’s form, Martin emphasised the need for his players to show more “bravery” and “aggression” in key moments.

Hearts Team News

Hearts have made an impressive start to the season, currently sitting second in the Scottish Premiership table with 10 points from four games. The Jambos have won three and drawn one of their opening fixtures, scoring 10 goals in the process.

However, Hearts will be without several key players for the trip to Ibrox. Craig Gordon is sidelined with a shoulder injury, while Frankie Kent remains out with a knee problem until early October. Jamie McCart is doubtful with an ankle injury, and Calem Nieuwenhof continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Kenneth Vargas faces a late fitness test as he recovers from a hip injury, while Christian Dahle Borchgrevink and Ryan Fulton are also on the treatment table. Ageu is expected to be out until early October with a hamstring injury.

Form

Rangers

Russell Martin’s side have been frustratingly consistent in their inconsistency, drawing all four of their opening Scottish Premiership fixtures. The Light Blues have struggled to find their attacking rhythm under their new manager, scoring just three goals in four league games while conceding three.

Their most recent outing was a goalless draw against Celtic in the Old Firm derby, a result that highlighted both their defensive solidity and lack of cutting edge in the final third. Before that, Rangers were held 1-1 by St Mirren and suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to Club Brugge in the UCL Qualifiers, which  led to the team’s elimination.

Hearts

The Jambos have been in excellent form, winning three of their four league games to establish themselves as early title contenders. Most recently, they secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Livingston, with goals from Claudio Braga and Alexios Kyziridis ensuring all three points.

Derek McInnes’ men have shown great character in their victories, often coming from behind to secure results. Their attacking prowess has been evident with Lawrence Shankland leading the line effectively, supported by the pace and creativity of their wing players.

Predicted Lineups

Rangers: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Souttar, Meghoma; Barron, Diomande; Gassama, Aasgaard, Moore; Miovski.

Hearts: Clark; Kent, Halkett, Findlay; McEntee, Devlin, Baningime, Spittal, Milne; Shankland, Braga.
