The arrival of a popular new coach tends to be welcomed at Roma with a mural on the walls of Testaccio, so Claudio Ranieri received this honour on his third stint.
The 73-year-old had announced his retirement after securing Cagliari’s top flight status, but was tempted back onto the bench at the Stadio Olimpico to lead his beloved club.
He was greeted at the airport on his return from a meeting with patron Dan Friedkin in London by hundreds of Roma supporters cheering.

The coach has brought back enthusiasm from the Giallorossi fans and that was reflected by a mural on the walls of the Testaccio area of the city, where his family hails from.
The mural by the artist Drugi depicts the coach as an Ancient Roman cradling a wolf puppy, the wolf being the symbol of the Eternal City.
There was also a banner outside the Trigoria training ground left overnight: ‘Yet again you did not hold back. Ranieri, eternal leader.’
