FC Barcelona completely thrashed Newcastle United at the Spotify Camp Nou with a convincing victory. With the English team taken care of, the Catalan giants now move on to the next stage of the competition.
A historic 7–2 victory at home saw Raphinha score twice, while Robert Lewandowski also grabbed a brace, and Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, and Marc Bernal all got on the scoresheet. It was truly an immense performance from Hansi Flick’s team, with plenty of heroes to discuss.
Here are the ratings for the Barcelona players following the game.
Joan Garcia: 8.0/10
Solid for most of the game and did well to stop some of Newcastle United’s advances. His distribution was elite, but he unfortunately had to come off with some kind of discomfort.
Eric Garcia: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating. Had to be substituted off early in the first half due to discomfort.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.0/10
Composed at the back and played some beautiful passes to help the team initiate their progressive moments. A solid outing from the young Spanish centre-back.
Gerard Martin: 8.5/10
Assisted Marc Bernal’s goal and played a great pass that led to Fermin Lopez’s goal. Beyond that, his defensive awareness was solid, and he played some good passes in general, too.
Joao Cancelo: 7.0/10
Not at his very best moving forward, but still created some interesting opportunities. A solid performance from the Portuguese full-back.
Marc Bernal: 7.5/10
Did well to win his duels and was composed with the finish he struck past the Newcastle United goalkeeper. A good performance from the young midfielder.
Pedri: 7.5/10
Grew into the game slowly and completely changed the tempo once he started playing his own game. Especially in the second half, he created some great chances and made life miserable for Newcastle United.
Lamine Yamal: 8.5/10
Made some big statements ahead of the game with his social media activity and delivered. Converted a penalty, provided an assist, and consistently created big chances for his teammates.
Fermin Lopez: 9.0/10
Scored a goal with a composed finish on Barça’s counterattack and was intense throughout. Did well to win the ball back on a few occasions and provided the first assist for Raphinha.
Raphinha: 10/10
What a player. Involved in essentially every goal scored in this game, he netted two and assisted two. Beyond that, his intensity was unquestionable, and he even won the team a penalty and delivered a cross that led to Marc Bernal’s goal. An immense performance.
Robert Lewandowski: 8.0/10
Struggled for much of the game, and his lack of intensity was evident in the first half. However, he showed his strength and accuracy in front of the goal in the second half and secured a brace.
Substitutes:
Ronald Araujo: 6.5/10
A decent performance for much of the game, but he had a few moments where he slipped up.
Ferran Torres: 6.0/10
Applied good pressure from the front.
Dani Olmo: 6.5/10
Agile in tight spaces and played well after coming on for Barcelona.
Xavi Espart: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
Wojciech Szczesny: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
