Manchester United remain open to Rasmus Hojlund’s departure this summer with interest from AC Milan and Germany in the Danish striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.

All In On Sesko

United have been on the hunt for a new number nine this summer – and the club appear to have finally landed on their preferred target, Benjamin Sesko.

At 22 years of age, the RB Leipzig frontman is one of the standout young strikers in European football with no player under the age of 23 scoring more goals than Sesko since he arrived in Germany two years ago.

He has attracted attention from England’s elite with both Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed interest in the Slovenia international. But both London clubs focused on pursuits of alternative forwards this summer.

This has left the two United’s – Manchester and Newcastle – in a one-on-one battle with both teams having made advances in the past week.

Newcastle have tabled two separate bids, the second worth €90 million in total, while United submitted an €85 million bid (€75m + €10m in add-ons) yesterday.

There is growing confidence at Old Trafford that Sesko prefers the north west of England over the north east with a report relayed by The Peoples Person revealing the German club would allow their striker to decide his next move.

But if Sesko arrives – a 22-year-old striker with a potent pairing of pace and physicality – then that will leave little room for United’s existing version, Hojlund.

One In, One Out

Hojlund endured a miserable campaign last season, scoring just four goals in the Premier League while offering dreadful all-round play as he lead the line for Ruben Amorim.

Combined with the goal-shy performances of fellow senior striker, Joshua Zirkzee, who returned three league goals, it’s evident why United have prioritised an overhaul of the misfiring attacking unit this summer.

If Sesko arrives, he will join Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in a new-look front line for Amorim – and, without the prospect of European football next season, game time will be limited for the existing forwards being replaced.

Despite this, Hojlund is keen to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place. However, Italian transfer expert Romano reveals the arrival of a “top striker” means it “could be time to go and leave the club” for the Denmark international.

“If a top striker, like Benjamin Sesko, joins Manchester United…for Hojlund, it could be time to go and leave the club. There’s interest from Italy, AC Milan are looking for a striker. At the moment, financially, he’s considered too expensive, but he’s not the only option and [they] are considering a move for Vlahovic.

“Rasmus Hojlund could be an option for [Milan] if United open the door to his exit. United and Leipzig discussed the possibility of including Hojlund in the deal for Sesko last week, but this is not possible as the player is not keen on the move – that option collapsed immediately.”

As per reports this morning, Sesko is drawing closer and closer to a switch to Old Trafford – and this may mean Hojlund will be drawing closer and closer to an exit from the Theatre of Dreams, even if he would rather stay.
