Rayo Vallecano’s first-team squad, backed by the coaching staff, have issued a hard-hitting statement via AFE, urging the club to care for its supporters and condemning poor working conditions.
They describe the fans as a fundamental pillar whose loyalty merits greater care and consideration, in line with the club’s identity and history.
The players say pre-season work was hit when, for about three months, they could not use the training ground because of pitch condition, forcing them to train elsewhere. Later, bad weather saw them switch to a synthetic surface away from the base.
Over the past month, the Vallecas pitch has been deficient and worsening, leaving an unstable surface the squad consider unfit for top-flight matches. It forced them to train at the Ciudad Deportiva, while they also cite days without hot water, inconsistent cleaning and outdated facilities.
These concerns were repeatedly raised with the club president, but promised solutions have not fixed them, and the squad say their physical integrity and basic working conditions are at risk. They insist the message is not to spark conflict or distract from Saturday’s game, and stress their full commitment.
They add that it is time to say publicly that the situation must change. Dignified conditions and properly caring for an exemplary fanbase are, in their view, basic responsibilities, and they thank AFE while hoping the statement leads to improvement.
Separately, the club have registered Mendi and Ilias for the Conference League, leaving out Wertrouwd and former Valencia player Fran Pérez.
