Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have been in active discussions over the Yan Diomande deal in recent hours with both clubs working towards reaching an agreement that suits all parties involved.
PSG have attempted to hijack the deal with a late entry, but the player appears to have fixed his mind on joining Real Madrid now and there does not appear to be any possibility of that changing.
The transfer fee, needless to say, remains the big standoff factor between Real Madrid and Leipzig, with the Germans demanding close to €40 million more than Florentino Perez’s opening offer.
As reported by RMC Sport in a recent update, Leipzig would love to explore a new possibility where they sell Diomande this summer and keep him on loan for one more season, effectively deferring his permanent move by one summer.

Real Madrid, for their part, would not be against such an arrangement, especially if it means a more favourable economic situation. The player, however, wants to leave his current club this summer without any further delay.
Los Blancos are currently in pole position to sign Diomande, as also confirmed by Florian Plettenberg, and direct talks are moving fast. All efforts are being made to secure a deal at the earliest, possibly in a matter of hours.
The final fee, however, is expected to depend on the nuance explained above. If Diomande is loaned back for a season, Leipzig will accept a lower fee, but they will hold out for a bigger sum if he is to join immediately
It is queer how Real Madrid’s sudden decision to sign Diomande also happened to coincide with sudden rumours of Vinicius Jr’s departure, but there appears to be more going on than meets the eye.

Los Blancos likely view Diomande as the ideal Vinicius Jr. successor if the Brazilian leaves this summer, and the decision on whether to loan the player or sign him immediately may well boil down to the Vinicius saga.
The Brazilian talisman is currently caught between two minds – either he must renew on the terms the club propose or leave this summer to start a new adventure.
Should Vinicius leave, Diomande will have to arrive this summer to maintain firepower. If the Brazilian opts to stay, Los Blancos can defer his arrival by a year.
