RB Leipzig are always up there when it comes to challenging for the Bundesliga title but are still awaiting their maiden championship, but level on points with leaders Bayern Munich heading into matchday seven has further speculated whether the Saxony club could push Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen for the title this season.

In an interview with the DFL, Leipzig head coach Marco Rose was asked whether he thinks that winning the Bundesliga title is possible this year.

“A big topic of conversation in Leipzig is expectations,” said Rose. “I always say we’re working here to strive for the greatest possible success. We’ve won titles at Leipzig already. That means we know the feeling and want to have that feeling again. But we all know it’s a really special moment that belongs to a really special achievement, which we back ourselves to do but must also always back up.

“The important thing is you don’t just expect it. That topic of expectations again. You can expect us to give our all. You can expect us to be very ambitious and want to win every game. But at the end of the day, the opponent also has their say and can assume things. To subsequently do those things and perception are always a bit tough. It can also create an atmosphere that doesn’t push performances and that more likely forces pressure – or unpleasant pressure, because we always have pressure.

“Coming back to it, our fans can dream of many things, but a healthy approach in terms of expectations is also very important.”

Marco Rose’s RB Leipzig started the current Bundesliga campaign with wins against Bochum and Bayer Leverkusen, ending the latter’s domestic 43 game unbeaten run, before picking up 0-0 draws against Union Berlin and St. Pauli.

Wins against Augsburg and Heidenheim in their last two Bundesliga games heading into the international break has brought Leipzig level with Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich after they were held to draws against Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt.

This weekend, Leipzig make the trip to an in-form Mainz.
