Michael Duff’s side finished 11th in the League One table, 12 points adrift of sixth place Stevenage.

A difficult end to the campaign saw Wanderers win just one of their last six fixtures, and their attention will now turn to the summer transfer market.

Wycombe will be hoping to build a team capable of competing for promotion next year, as they eye a return to the second tier for the first time since 2021.

However, they will also be hoping to hold onto key talent through the summer, with clubs likely to eye moves.

League One rivals could look to bolster their squads while weakening Duff’s team, which will make it even trickier to compete for promotion in 2027.

It has been reported by Buck Free Press that Wycombe’s Fred Onyedinma is attracting interest from the likes of Oxford United and Reading.

The 29-year-old’s contract is set to expire this summer, and it is looking increasingly likely that his fourth stint with the Chairboys is set to come to an end.

The forward contributed 10 goals and two assists in the campaign just concluded, having made 43 appearances in the third tier.

He re-joined Wycombe in the 2024 summer transfer market, returning after his departure in 2021 when he signed for Luton.

Onyedinma initially joined the club on loan from Millwall in 2014, which was the first of two temporary spells with Wycombe.

The winger arrived on a permanent basis in 2019, and helped the team gain promotion to the Championship under Gareth Ainsworth in 2020.

However, the expiration of his contract is now attracting interest from League One rivals, including Oxford and Reading.

The U’s are planning for life in the third division after suffering relegation this season, and will be hoping to bolster their attacking options for a promotion push over the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, the Royals dropped to 12th in the table with a disappointing end to the campaign, and they too will have their sights set on climbing back into top six contention in the next campaign.

Wycombe are expected to name their retained list on 16 May, and it’s anticipated that Onyedinma will not be kept as he and the club have been unable to agree terms on a new contract.

Fred Onyedinma exit will be a blow to Wycombe

Onyedinma performed well this season, earning the player and supporters’ player of the year award for the first time with the club.

The 29-year-old was their top scorer, with a total of 10, and generally stood out as a top performer in his sixth season with the Chairboys.

Losing him for nothing will be a significant blow, as he is the kind of player that could attract a decent transfer fee under different circumstances.

Moving to a rival like Oxford or Reading would only make the damage worse, as he will be bolstering a potential promotion rival next season, and hurting their own chances of finishing inside the top six.
