Real Madrid admire wantaway Chelsea defender and so do Barcelona and Atletico | OneFootball

According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Real Madrid are among the clubs keeping an eye on Marc Cucurella’s situation at Chelsea.

Despite that interest, though, it remains unclear whether Los Blancos will make a move or have the financial room to complete such an operation.

Right now, the Spanish defender is open to leaving Chelsea this summer, attracting interest from several clubs across Spain. 

In that context, while Real Madrid appreciate the player, they are not alone in the race, with both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also monitoring the situation closely.

As things stand, Cucurella’s future remains undecided despite growing interest in his services.

According to the aforementioned outlet, Real Madrid value Cucurella’s profile and have followed his situation as they continue assessing options for the left-back position.

However, there is currently uncertainty over whether the club will actively pursue a deal. 

This is because financial considerations play a major role, particularly given other priorities within the squad.

The report adds that Barcelona have already established contact with the player’s camp, while Atletico Madrid have also explored the possibility of signing him.

Chelsea, on their part, are not under pressure to sell, as the defender still has three years remaining on his contract and club sources remain relaxed about his situation. 

Although Chelsea are willing to listen to offers, they would only sanction a transfer if their valuation is met.

Do Real Madrid need a left-back?

On paper, the squad contains several alternatives, but none have fully convinced as long-term first-choice solutions.

Ferland Mendy’s future remains unclear, while Fran Garcia has struggled to establish himself as the undisputed starter. 

Meanwhile, Alvaro Carreras is yet to do enough to guarantee a prominent role moving forward, and that uncertainty explains why the club continue to assess opportunities in the market.

Cucurella offers experience at the highest level, familiarity with Spanish football and the versatility to operate in different defensive systems. 

For now, though, Real Madrid’s interest appears to be at the evaluation stage rather than active negotiations. 

However, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid already making moves, Los Blancos may eventually have to decide whether Cucurella is a market opportunity worth pursuing.
