Real Madrid & Atlético learn Champions League playoff opponents | OneFootball

Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid have on Friday learned their respective opponents for the upcoming Champions League playoff round.

This of course comes after both were condemned to defeat in the final round of league phase fixtures in the competition earlier this week.

In the case of Real Madrid, Los Blancos were downed by four goals to two at Benfica.

Diego Simeone’s Atlético, meanwhile, were put to the sword in concerning fashion at the hands of Bodø/Glimt.

Owing to these developments, both sides missed out on automatic qualification to the Champions League’s Last-16, instead condemned to the playoffs.

And the draw for as much since took place on Friday.

Real Madrid have been pitted against the side whom they lost to just days ago, in the form of José Mourinho’s Benfica.

Atlético face a two-legged affair with Belgian giants Club Brugge.

Both ties have been pencilled in for next month.
