While Real Madrid are currently prioritising departure operations over arrivals, they continue to maintain contacts and negotiations with key targets.
The centre-back position is still seen as a department in need of reinforcements by Jose Mourinho, despite the arrival of Ibrahima Konate.
After all, the Portuguese manager does not seem to trust the current Real Madrid back-line and is looking to revamp the complete department with new arrivals. Alessandro Bastoni, on that front, has emerged as a top target.
Real Madrid and Mourinho rate the Inter Milan defender highly, and as reported by AS (h/t Madrid Xtra) in a recent update, the new manager sees Bastoni as the ‘perfect’ fit for his plans.

He is seriously pushing for a centre-back addition at the earliest, and Real Madrid are working hard to ensure it can be fulfilled. A deal can be completed in the ballpark of €60 million according to the Spanish outlet.
The 27-year-old star has a contract in place with the Serie A side until 2028 and a transfer would not be easy under normal circumstances. His relationship with the fans in Italy, however, went sour last season, which is serving as a factor in his departure.
Last season, Bastoni made 28 league starts for Inter Milan in the Serie A alone and was a critical pillar in the team’s Scudetto-winning run. He oversaw eight clean sheets and created seven big chances despite playing as a defender.
The Italian star is now seen as Real Madrid’s ‘priority’ signing for the rest of the summer transfer window.

However, negotiations between Los Blancos and the Nerazzurri have not yet begun, and the talks are thus still in their infancy.
As matters stand, Inter have not yet received any official bids or offers from Real Madrid and matters are still at the speculation stage. However, there is genuine interest in taking matters forward with urgency.
From Real Madrid’s perspective, an offer will likely be launched after the club completes some sales, likely those of Eduardo Camavinga, Raul Asencio or Aurelien Tchouameni.
After all, they must balance the books as well as make room in the squad before they continue their storm of signings.
