Kylian Mbappé has officially returned to the Real Madrid squad ahead of Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Manchester City.
The French international had missed the last five matches with a left knee sprain, but trained normally with the group on Sunday and has now been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s travelling squad for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.
It remains unclear whether Mbappé will feature on the pitch against the English champions. Real Madrid travel to Manchester with a comfortable 3–0 advantage from the first leg, meaning Ancelotti may opt to manage the forward’s minutes after his recent injury.
Mbappé has not played since 21 February, when he suffered the knee problem that forced him to sit out several fixtures across all competitions.
His return also comes just days before Didier Deschamps announces the latest France squad on Thursday, with the former Paris Saint-Germain forward widely expected to be included if his fitness continues to improve.GFFN | George Boxall
