Real Madrid confirm Mourinho on three-season deal, presentation to follow in July | OneFootball

The club said in a statement that José Mourinho has returned to Real Madrid on a three-season contract running to 30 June 2029, and will report on 13 July with a presentation to follow in July.

The board met on Thursday to approve his comeback and to confirm Florentino Pérez as president until 2030, with the announcement landing as the World Cup opened.

Mourinho's first spell lasted three years and one day, ending on 1 June 2013 after 178 games with 128 wins and three trophies, La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa. It was a tenure that also produced frequent flashpoints with players, rivals, officials and media.

He arrived in Madrid on Tuesday, visited Valdebebas to take up his office and assess the revamped facilities. Pre-season will start with academy players before internationals join progressively.

Squad building is under way. He will look to fortify the defence after the arrivals of Dumfries and Konaté and the renewal of Rudiger. Madrid are targeting a left-sided defender, with Gvardiol and Callafiori among the names mentioned, and further midfield support.

Mourinho met Jorge Mendes, José Ángel Sánchez and Juni Calafat on Tuesday to continue planning. A €150 million bid to Atlético for Julián Álvarez was rejected, approaches for Joao Neves, Vitinha and Michael Olise did not progress, and Bernardo Silva now appears closest to joining despite interest from Atlético and Barcelona.
