La Liga giants Real Madrid weighed up tabling a bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro earlier this summer. This comes with the defender boasting a number of keen admirers in the Santiago Bernabéu boardroom.

Porro is for his part of course in the midst of nothing short of a spectacular summer to date. Afforded a place in Spain’s first-choice XI for the World Cup, the 26-year-old has responded with a string of standout performances.

In fact, after Fernando Hierro, Porro has become just the 2nd Spanish defender to ever notch two goals at the same edition of the tournament.

And such form will not have gone at all unnoticed behind the scenes at the aforementioned Real Madrid…

As confirmed by Diario AS this week, amid their search for a replacement for Dani Carvajal earlier this summer, Los Blancos gave real consideration to a move for Porro.

The former Sporting CP full-back has been in the sights of Florentino Pérez and co. for some time, with his explosion onto the world stage having been foreseen by more than one in the boardroom in Spain’s capital.

In the end, Real of course opted to bring in the significantly cheaper Denzel Dumfries, but Porro’s name has not been at all forgotten with a view to future transfer markets.
