Real Madrid signed Alvaro Carreras last summer at the express request of Xabi Alonso, and the player served as the de facto starter at left-back for most of the season.

They did, however, have a surplus of resources in the department with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia also on the side, and the plan always was to offload one player in the summer.

The summer has now arrived, and Real Madrid have only gone on and added yet another massive signing in the form of Marc Cucurella.

With four left-backs now in the side, there is an urgent need to make sales.

Carreras could be the one moving out

As reported by Mario Cortegana via Defensa Central now, Alvaro Carreras’ situation could well take a steep turn. While he was a de facto starter not too long ago, he may well be on his way out this summer.

New Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is not completely convinced by Carreras’ profile and that he does not see him as the right fit for his dynamics. He will not have a problem if the player stays, but he will likely not hand him a major role.

Real Madrid, thus, are open to listening to offers for the left-back just a year after his arrival.

They expect a fee of around €40 million to €50 million for him and have eyes on the Premier League which would be the most probable destination.

Of the three ‘surplus’ profiles, Carreras thus may prove to be the most sale-worthy. After all, Mendy is practically impossible to sell while Fran Garcia would make for a better backup option.

Real Madrid have been working hard to complete as many sales as possible in recent weeks, and it is clear that the departure front has taken prominence at the Spanish capital.

Having already made massive signings this summer, Los Blancos need to balance the books with equivalent departures on the salary books.

Dani Ceballos’ contract termination coupled with the exits of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba help the situation to some extent.

However, they are still eyeing at least one big transfer away from the club. Eduardo Camavinga has been widely linked as the possible individual to leave, but Carreras now stands out as one with a similar market value.
