The blow is a harsh one for Real Madrid and for Rodrygo. Having just returned from an Achilles tendon issue, the Brazilian forward saw his season take a dramatic turn during the defeat against Getafe (0-1). Coming on as a substitute in the second half, he finished the match despite pain in his right knee, only for medical tests to deliver an uncompromising verdict.

A shattered season

"After the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by Real Madrid’s medical staff, an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and a tear of the external meniscus in his right leg have been diagnosed," the Madrid club announced.

Surgery is scheduled, with an expected absence of between six and ten months.

His 2025-2026 season is already over, and his participation in the 2026 World Cup with Brazil is now off the table. For Madrid, already missing several key players, Rodrygo’s injury feels like yet another setback in an especially turbulent period.
