Alexis Mac Allister sits in that sweet spot for Liverpool: central to the project, but close enough to contract “decision time” for conversations to be active behind the scenes.
He joined from Brighton in 2023 for around £35m and signed a five‑year deal to 2028, on wages reported at about £150,000 per week plus bonuses.
That gives Liverpool firm control for at least two more summers, with no release clause in his Anfield contract despite past reports of a €70m mechanism.
On the pitch, Mac Allister has become a go‑to starter under Arne Slot, shifting between deeper and advanced roles in a more possession‑heavy midfield and regarded as one of the technical reference points in the side.
The noise now is around his next step: there has been external speculation about Real Madrid and even Manchester United, but his camp have publicly stressed he is focused on Liverpool while waiting to see what kind of extension is put on the table.
For the club, the choice is simple: either tie him down on improved terms soon, or accept that his peak‑market decision probably arrives by 2027 at the latest.
