Real Madrid may have spend approximately €90m this summer, but they have also raked in €80m from sales. €20m of that come from receiving 50% of the €40m Liverpool spent on Victor Munoz, and at least another €12.5m will arrive when Alvaro Rodriguez completes his transfer to AFC Bournemouth. And now, they could be about to net a further transfer windfall from the sale of another of their former players.
Back in the summer of 2023, Real Madrid sold Sergio Arribas to Almeria for €6m, and while he struggled to make much of an impact as the Andalusians were relegated during the 2023-24 campaign, he has been very impressive in the Segunda Division over the last two years. Last season, he scored 26 times, although it was not enough as Almeria lost out to Malaga in the play-off final.
That failure all-but ensured that Arribas would be leaving Almeria this summer, and he could be about to continue his career in Portugal. As per Sport, Benfica are in talks to sign the attacking midfielder, and they are currently prepared to make an offer of €20m.
As is the case with many other La Fabrica talents that have left, Real Madrid have a 50% sell-on clause for Arribas. They would be entitled to €10m if Benfica managed to sign him, although it’s noted that Almeria have set a €25m asking price, which if met, would see €12.5m heading to the Bernabeu.
It’s almost certain that Arribas will end up leaving Almeria this summer, and when he does, Real Madrid will be waiting to receive their share. Right now, they are hoping to bring in €12.5m, although that will depend on whether Benfica are willing to match the asking price that has been set for the 24-year-old.
