In recent days, not everything has been going Real Madrid’s way in Spain. The club’s management had reached out to LaLiga, aiming to postpone their 2025-2026 season opener, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, against Osasuna.

Real Madrid requested that the fixture be pushed back by more than two months, to October 29. The club’s leadership moved quickly, sending an official letter to LaLiga, with the backing of Osasuna and the Spanish Federation, arguing that players should benefit from three weeks of rest followed by three weeks of preseason, as reported by daily newspaper AS.

However, according to El Larguero, LaLiga is set to deny the request. The reason? The governing body believes Real Madrid already have the minimum required three weeks of rest, apparently not taking into account the six weeks referenced by AS. Furthermore, LaLiga points out that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, who are also through to the Club World Cup semi-finals and will resume their domestic campaigns at the same time as the Madrid side, have not made any similar requests.
