Real Madrid have received a major boost ahead of the decisive months, as defender Antonio Rudiger has finally managed to overcome the knee problems that had been troubling him for a long time.

According to a report from MARCA, the German centre-back travelled to London earlier this year to work with a specialist who created a personalised recovery plan designed specifically for his condition.

That decision now appears to have completely changed his situation.

What’s the story?

The treatment focused on carefully managed physical work combined with targeted medical procedures, including injections and controlled rehabilitation sessions.

The aim was to reduce the pain in his knee while strengthening the area so that he could once again perform at the highest level.

The results have been extremely encouraging, as Rudiger is now feeling completely free of discomfort and confident about his physical condition.

Rudiger, whose future is uncertain, started the 2025/26 season without completing a full pre-season, and the heavy match schedule quickly began to take its toll. Even though he was not fully comfortable, he continued to play regularly.

Eventually, the physical strain became too much, and he suffered a muscle injury that forced him to spend two months on the sidelines.

Despite that setback, the defender rushed back earlier than planned to help the team. Unfortunately, this decision led to further problems, as the knee pain returned and gradually worsened.

The real turning point came in early January. After Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid, Rudiger realised that he needed a long-term solution rather than continuing to push through the pain.

Going to London

That decision led him to London, where he began working closely with a specialist doctor and his personal medical team.

Over several weeks, the programme focused on rebuilding strength in the knee and eliminating the discomfort that had been limiting his performances.

The progress became clear when Rudiger returned to action in mid-February against Real Sociedad. Since then, he has felt much stronger physically.

With coach Alvaro Arbeloa carefully managing his workload and recovery schedule, Rudiger now believes his injury troubles are finally behind him as Real Madrid enter the most important stage of the season.
