According to a report from Real Madrid Confidencial, Real Madrid have set their sights on three Spanish players for the summer of 2025: Miguel Gutierrez, Nico Williams, and Martin Zubimendi.
This move is part of a broader strategy by club president Florentino Perez to increase the number of Spanish players in the team, a goal he has committed to for the upcoming years.
This initiative, often referred to as the “Spanish-ization” of the club, aims to bring a stronger local presence into Real Madrid’s squad, aligning with the broader trend of relying on homegrown talent.
In addition to their interest in securing Spanish talent, Real Madrid have already made moves in the transfer market by bringing in international stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies.
However, the club now seems focused on reinforcing the squad with more Spanish players.

Among the targets, Zubimendi, the Spanish midfielder from Real Sociedad, stands out as the most obvious choice. His profile fits the club’s current needs, and his skill set would bring a dynamic presence to the midfield.
Gutierrez, a versatile defender, and Nico, an exciting winger from Athletic Club, are also of interest. These players represent strong Spanish talent, and their addition would provide valuable depth to the squad in various positions.
Gutierrez’s ability to play both as a full-back and in the centre-back role adds flexibility to the team’s defensive options, while Williams offers speed and creativity, which could complement Real Madrid’s attacking style.
However, it must be noted that Real Madrid’s interest in Zubimendi could signal the end of any pursuit of Manchester City’s Rodri.
Despite Rodri’s quality and his prominence as a key player for City, the fact that he is nearing thirty and currently injured has made him less appealing to Perez and his team.
This shift in focus underlines Real Madrid’s intention to build a squad that is both youthful and primarily Spanish, preparing for long-term success while maintaining a strong local identity.
