Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has given a positive evaluation of the new initiative from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as they seek to reduce the pressure on referees. Following on from comments by Aurelien Tchouameni and Dani Carvajal in which they should empathy and understanding for some calls in the opening weeks of the season, it continues the lowering of the tone from Los Blancos regarding officials.

While Carlo Ancelotti got on board with the club’s criticism of referees in the final season of his tenure, amid weekly Real Madrid TV videos accusing referees of bias against Los Blancos. That has not stopped, with the club channel branding the new initiative a ‘botch job’, and of little use, but Alonso took a different tone.

Xabi Alonso – ‘I think this helps to explain situations’

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing, evidently, there are points where you can agree or disagree more. I think this helps to explain situations, I don’t know if it can help reduce errors, but if it does, that would be welcomed… Errors will continue to occur.”

The concept was released showing seven decisions analysed between Primera and Segunda over the first three weeks. Regarding Real Madrid, a disallowed goal for handball against Arda Guler was explained as the correct decision.

‘Mbappe, Rodrygo and Vinicius can play together’ – Alonso

Meanwhile Alonso also assured that his star-studded front three of Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior could function under him. So far Rodrygo and Vinicius have been an either/or decision for Alonso.

“They can. They’ve done it long before. It’s not out of the question. The fact that we haven’t done it so far is nothing. You can’t draw conclusions from just three games.”
