Earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting that Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr. had reached an agreement in principle over a contract renewal.
The 25-year-old Brazilian’s current deal expires in 2027 and talks have been at a standstill for some time now.
But it appeared like a breakthrough had finally been reached and Vinicius would soon sign a new contract with the Merengues, ideally before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, according to journalist Ramon Alvarez, contrary to the reports, Vinicius and Real Madrid do not have a renewal agreement in place at this time.
Both parties want to reach an understanding, but there is still a gap on the economic front.
As has already been reported, Vinicius is seeking a salary that would put him on par with Kylian Mbappe as the highest earner, along with a significant signing bonus.

However, Real Madrid are not prepared to meet those demands, leading to the standoff in negotiations.
Both the player and the club are keen on resolving the issue and finding an agreement on terms, but so far, it has not materialised despite reports suggesting otherwise.
If the situation continues, Vinicius will soon enter the final year of his deal at Real Madrid in the summer, putting the club in a difficult position.
However, the Brazilian megastar has always maintained that he wishes to continue at the Santiago Bernabeu for a long time. It is now only a matter of the two parties finding a middle ground in negotiations before a renewal can be finalised.
