Real Madrid are considering reinforcing their midfield department in the summer of 2026, given that they did not replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who left the club in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Arda Guler’s transition into a midfielder has helped this season, but Los Blancos intend to bring in a new player for the position, and have identified possible targets already.
Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton happens to be one of the names on Real Madrid’s radar, while Manchester City’s Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is also a target.
Now, according to journalist Ben Jacobs on The United Stand, Wharton could be available for a fee of around £60 million in the summer transfer window.
As per the update, the 21-year-old midfielder has some kind of a gentleman’s agreement with the Eagles, wherein he will be allowed to leave for a Champions League club for the aforementioned transfer fee.

As has already been reported, apart from Real Madrid, Premier League giants Manchester United are also very much interested in the England star.
Wharton has a contract with Crystal Palace until the summer of 2029, but the Eagles are already working on a renewal amid growing interest in their midfield star.
However, in case a new deal is not agreed upon, the young midfielder could become available for around £60 million should a club competing in the Champions League come calling.
As mentioned before, Wharton is not the only midfielder Real Madrid are monitoring, with Rodri also very much on the discussion table at Valdebebas. So, it remains to be seen if the Merengues move for him or not.
