Federico Valverde continues to grow into one of the most influential figures at Real Madrid, and his latest comments during international duty offer a deeper look into his mindset.
Currently with the Uruguay national football team, Valverde spoke to the federation’s media channel ahead of a clash against the England national football team, reflecting on his journey, recent performances, and his role at the club level.
As one of the leaders within the squad, Valverde expressed his gratitude for the responsibility he carries at Real Madrid, a role that still feels surreal to him.
Speaking about his connection with the club and the honour of captaining the side, he said:
“I deeply appreciate being the captain of Real Madrid. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe the moments I’ve lived through.
“Like my first match with the national team and recently scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League.”
Valverde’s recent form has been exceptional, with goals playing a decisive role in key matches, including a standout performance against Manchester City and a crucial contribution in the derby against Atletico Madrid.
Despite his growing reputation as a decisive player in attack, Valverde admitted that even he did not expect to reach such scoring heights.

“The hattrick [against Man City]? I never imagined I’d score more than two goals.”
Valverde is rarely known for his explosive runs, but is regarded for his ability to cover large areas of the pitch.
However, he revealed that even he is sometimes caught off guard by his own pace.
“I think I’m very fast, but sometimes I get surprised by my speed when I see it.”
One of Valverde’s greatest strengths is his versatility, having played in multiple roles for Real Madrid – from full-back to winger and central midfield.
When asked about his preferred position, he made it clear that his focus is always on the team’s needs rather than personal preference.
“My favourite position? I love helping the team. Sometimes the team needs a fullback and sometimes it needs a winger. This is my position.
“I am ready for any task requested of me by the technical staff,” he concluded.
