Dani Ceballos looked destined to leave Real Madrid just a few weeks ago.
After another season spent largely on the fringes of the squad, an exit appeared to be the most logical outcome for both player and club, with a move to Ajax gathering pace.
However, the landscape at the Santiago Bernabeu has changed dramatically.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the arrival of Jose Mourinho has given Ceballos fresh belief that he can still carve out a role at Real Madrid.
Despite growing frustration over his lack of playing time in recent seasons, the midfielder is now seriously considering remaining at the club rather than seeking a move elsewhere this summer.
The development comes at a time when Mourinho is expected to make several important decisions regarding the composition of his squad ahead of the new campaign.

For much of the season, Ceballos appeared to be one of the players most likely to depart.
The Spanish midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter despite being highly regarded for his technical quality and experience.
Yet the aforementioned report suggests that Mourinho’s appointment has altered the player’s thinking.
Rather than pushing for an exit, Ceballos now wants to remain in Madrid and attempt to convince the Portuguese coach that he deserves a place in the squad.
The midfielder believes a new manager brings a new opportunity, and he is prepared to take advantage of that possibility.

Notably, Ceballos remains tied to Real Madrid until June 2027.
This means if he stays for the upcoming season, he would then enter the final year of his deal and potentially gain greater control over his future.
That scenario would allow him to evaluate his options next year, which explains why the player prefers to stay.
Simply put, Ceballos dreams of moving back to his boyhood club, Real Betis, but the La Liga side just cannot afford to pay a transfer fee.
However, by 2027, he can fulfil his dream by signing for Betis as a free agent if the situation aligns.
