In the ongoing La Liga season, Real Madrid are the team to have handed the highest number of debuts to academy players.

The opportunities for talents coming through La Fabrica and Castilla have grown significantly ever since Alvaro Arbeloa took over the reins.

Thiago Pitarch has become a regular starter in recent weeks while the likes of Cesar Palacios and Manuel Angel are a part of the matchday squads frequently.

Joan Martinez – one for the future

Another young talent primed for a first-team debut in the near future happens to be 18-year-old defender Joan Martinez.

And, as reported by El Mundo, Real Madrid are pinning their hopes on the teenage prospect as a candidate for the right centre-back spot in the senior team for the future.

Martinez has been knocking on the first-team doors since 2024, when he was a part of the pre-season plans under Carlo Ancelotti, until a brutal ACL injury sidelined him for close to a year.

Having made his comeback last year, the Spanish centre-back has been continuing his development in Castilla, where he played under Arbeloa before the latter’s promotion to the first-team managerial position.

So far this term, Martinez has played 22 league games for Castilla, even scoring one goal. The teenage defender has also been in the first-team matchday squad for six games in all competitions this term, but his official debut has yet to occur.

The Spanish starlet has shown positive signs and those at Valdebebas are hopeful that his development progresses as they see him as a candidate for a future first-team spot.
