Dani Carvajal’s long-awaited return to the pitch was one of the key highlights for Real Madrid as they kick-started the new season with a 1-0 win over Osasuna.

The veteran defender came on as a 68th-minute substitute for Trent Alexander-Arnold, marking his first appearance for the club after coming back from a long injury layoff.

As the season progresses, Carvajal is expected to play a key role at Real Madrid, as he is not only an important player but also a leader in the dressing room.

Real Madrid ready to renew Carvajal’s contract

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are determined to keep hold of Carvajal beyond the end of his current contract.

The veteran’s deal at Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2026, but the club are ready to hand him a renewal for another season.

Real Madrid’s plan is to offer Carvajal the same salary package he has been receiving in his current contract.

From a sporting perspective, Carvajal is expected to compete with Alexander-Arnold for a place in the first-team next season.

But more importantly, the Spaniard’s experience and his leadership could go a long way in shepherding a new-look defensive line, with Real Madrid notably bringing in the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras in the summer.

On the flip side, the Spanish giants are ready to get rid of old guards such as David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, both of whom are currently in the final year of their respective contracts.

Although Carvajal is not getting any younger either, Real Madrid have immense faith in the Spaniard and see him continuing at least until 2027.

Carvajal, for his part, is in no hurry to leave Real Madrid. In fact, he wants to retire at the Bernabeu and has not been considering offers from other clubs.
