With Real Madrid being on the lookout for a new left-back this summer, there were strong links to one of their former players, Miguel Gutierrez.
After all, the 24-year-old has excelled since joining Girona from the Spanish capital club back in 2022.
The fact that Real Madrid had an affordable buyback clause for the left-back only served to fuel the speculations further.
In the end, though, Los Blancos decided against re-signing Gutierrez and instead opted for another former academy prospect, Alvaro Carreras, spending €50 million on his signing from Benfica.
Now, Real Madrid are set for a significant financial windfall as Gutierrez is edging closer to a departure from Girona.
Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, Gutierrez is all set to join Napoli. After several days of uncertainty and a process that had stalled, the operation has been unlocked, and the left-back is now only waiting for final authorisation to travel to Italy on Monday.

The 24-year-old will undergo a medical examination there and sign his contract with the Serie A champions, beginning a new chapter in his career.
Apart from having affordable buyback options for Gutierrez, Real Madrid had also inserted a 50% future sell-on clause in their agreement with Girona. As such, they are now entitled to half the fee that the Catalan club receives from Napoli.
As per the report, the Spanish defender’s transfer will bring in €18 million plus €2 million in variables, taking the total to €20 million. Half of that, i.e., €10 million, will end up in the pockets of Real Madrid.
Considering that Los Blancos spent quite heavily this summer, this revenue, even if not very significant, is welcome in order to somewhat help balance the books.
