Real Madrid short of centre-backs for Getafe clash

Real Madrid aim to return to winning ways in La Liga when they host Getafe at the Bernabeu on Monday night, but several key players are missing. Kylian Mbappe will not be involved, while Jude Bellingham and Eder Militao are still awaiting their return.

Militao is one of three central defensive concerns. Raul Asencio, 23, was forced off in Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League win over Benfica, and hospital tests ruled out serious damage. According to MD, he will be able to play against Getafe.

Dean Huijsen remains sidelined with a calf issue and has yet to rejoin full training, so he is unlikely to be risked on Monday. Despite that, the absences of Militao, Asencio and Huijsen would leave head coach Alvaro Arbeloa with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba as his only natural centre-backs. Aurelien Tchouameni can cover if required, although the likelihood is he continues to be used in midfield.

Madrid have wrestled with injuries throughout the season and will hope the picture clears quickly. It is hoped Asencio and Huijsen will be able to return next Friday against Celta Vigo.

Arbeloa would then face selection calls ahead of the first leg of their Champions League tie with Manchester City five days later. All centre-backs, apart from Militao, should be ready for that one.
