Real Madrid star admits ‘everything was done’ for transfer to Barcelona | OneFootball

A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has revealed that he was on the verge of joining arch rivals Barcelona, prior to taking his talents to Spain’s capital.

The player in question? Rodrygo.

Frontman Rodrygo is for his part fresh off entering his 7th season as a Real Madrid player.

The Brazilian, whilst currently considered 2nd choice, has been responsible for countless historic moments across his stint in Blancos colours, most notably that brace against Manchester City in the Champions League.

As alluded to above, though, had things panned out just a little differently, such excellence could instead have been showcased on the other half of the Clásico divide.

Speaking during an interview with Diario AS this week, Rodrygo was drawn on claims that he was close to joining Barcelona during his days as a Santos player.

And the 24-year-old was not shy in admitting:

”Before signing for Real Madrid, everything was already done and I’d signed for Barça. It’s true. But my father told me Real Madrid had called us and I had to choose. For me, it was very easy. I knew what I wanted and what my dream was. I didn’t even hesitate. And here I am.”
