One member of Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid squad played through illness to secure for himself Man of the Match honours in the club’s meeting with Deportiva Minera.

That’s according to Blancos insider Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, who points towards Arda Güler as the player in question.

Youngster Güler was for his part afforded his latest chance to impress on Monday, featuring from the off in Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey Last-32 meeting with the aforementioned Deportiva.

And, safe to say, this is an opportunity which the 19-year-old went on to grasp with both hands.

Dazzling from his berth on the right, Güler bagged a brace en route to a 5-0 rout for the Spanish champions, enough to earn for the Turk the Man of the Match award.

And yet, as has since been revealed on Tuesday, Güler was actually under the weather at the Estadio Cartagonova.

As per a report from Guillermo Rai:

‘Arda Güler had fever and was ill yesterday.’
