Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has on Monday moved to reveal his appreciation for the performance put forth by arch rivals Barcelona in their recent Clásico triumph.
The latest edition of Spanish football’s most famous fixture of course played out late last month.
In a top-of-the-table La Liga clash, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real played host to rampant Barca, hoping to close the gap on the Blaugrana at the division’s summit.
When all was said and done, however, Los Blancos were taught something of a lesson by their Clásico rivals.
Owing to a rampant attacking display, Hansi Flick’s visitors emerged on the right side of an eventual 4-0 result.
Speaking in an interview with Movistar on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his side’s drubbing at the hands of Barcelona was put to the aforementioned Federico Valverde.
And the Uruguayan made use of the opportunity to momentarily put rivalries aside, praising Flick’s men for ‘a great game’:
“El Clásico? Losing 4-0 hurts a lot, and it’s really frustrating not to secure the three points at home. Sometimes, you have to acknowledge when the other team plays better, and I believe Barcelona had a great game. I think Barcelona executed their game plan well.”
