Real Madrid let go of Endrick just days before sacking Xabi Alonso from his position, a decision that did not make much sense given how the youngster may well have been trusted more by Alvaro Arbeloa.

In any case, his loan move to Ligue 1 has been successful so far with the player not only getting minutes but becoming an important player for the team.

He already has four goals and an assist in just three games for the team, and is setting the French competition on fire.

Endrick’s interview

In a conversation with L’Equipe in a recent interview, the young Brazilian spoke about how Carlo Ancelotti had special words for him when he left Real Madrid on loan earlier this season.

“Carlo Ancelotti and I had a wonderful conversation when I left Real Madrid. He gave me some advice that really stuck with me.”

He was then asked about his role model, and he unsurprisingly picked Real Madrid’s biggest legend of all time – Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is my number 1 idol. What I admire most is that at 40 years old, he remains the one who works harder than everyone else.”

“He’s close to retirement, but he’s still capable of playing for many more years. I hope he does,” he added.

When asked about possibly sharing the field with him in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Endrick said,

“Playing against Cristiano Ronaldo in the World Cup? Ah, that would be wonderful. I hope it happens and that we win it (smiles).”

Finally, he was asked about his playing style and how he currently takes half the shooting chances for Lyon, to which he said,

“I am the number 9 and the striker is always looking for the goal, always looking to finish.”

“If my teammate is in a better position, I’ll pass the ball, but I’m a striker, and it’s by taking my chances that I’ll help the team,” he added.

Elaborating that goals were the only metric that interested him, the youngster said,

“When I’m on the pitch, I only look at the goal. That’s the objective of football; to score.”
