Few players can match Real Madrid megastar Kylian Mbappe’s numbers over the past season.

The French forward finished as the top scorer in La Liga (25 goals) for the second consecutive year, led the Champions League scoring charts with 15 goals, and also finished as the top scorer at the World Cup with 10 goals.

Yet despite those remarkable individual achievements, the one thing missing was silverware, something that he is determined to set right in the upcoming season, reports AS.

Individual brilliance, collective frustration

Since winning the Ligue 1 title with PSG in 2024, Mbappe has failed to add another major trophy at either club or international level.

His first season at Real Madrid began promisingly, as he scored in both the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against Pachuca, helping Los Blancos lift both trophies.

However, those successes were followed by a frustrating drought in the competitions that matter most.

While the 2024-25 European Golden Shoe confirmed his status as one of the world’s deadliest finishers, Real Madrid’s inability to secure the biggest honours left the season feeling incomplete.

Last season followed a similar pattern as Mbappe scored goals in heaps but was unable to lift any trophy.

Ballon d’Or dream still waiting

The lack of team trophies has also complicated Mbappe’s pursuit of his first Ballon d’Or.

History has consistently shown that individual excellence alone is rarely enough. In most cases, winning the game’s biggest individual prize requires success at club or international level.

If Mbappe hopes to finally lift the Ballon d’Or, he knows Real Madrid must return to winning major honours.

A relationship to repair

Like every great partnership, Mbappe’s relationship with Real Madrid supporters has already experienced difficult moments.

His start to last season was spectacular, producing 29 goals in his first 24 matches, but the mood changed dramatically during the final months of the campaign.

A combination of Real Madrid’s poor form and criticism surrounding his recovery periods, including trips taken while rehabilitating from injuries, led sections of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd to voice their frustration during the closing weeks of the league season.

It marked the most difficult spell of his Real Madrid career so far.

A fresh start

After once again shining on the international stage during the World Cup, Mbappe is now preparing to return to Madrid for his third season in white.

This campaign carries greater significance than simply maintaining his extraordinary scoring record.

He returns determined to lead Real Madrid back to trophies and, in doing so, rebuild the connection with supporters that became strained last season.
